Terms of use
These terms are an agreement between you and Michele Matozza, an individual founder trading as Lanes (no company has been formed yet) ("Lanes", "we"). They cover the Lanes website, the Lanes VS Code extension, the hook and server software, and any hosted Lanes service (together, the "Service"). By using the Service you accept these terms. If you use it for an organisation, you confirm you may bind that organisation.
1. The Service
Lanes helps teams coordinate coding agents that edit the same git repository. The Community edition is software you run yourself. Hosted and paid plans, when launched, are governed by these terms and by the plan description at the time you subscribe.
2. Licence
Lanes is an open core product. Different parts have different licences, and the licence file that comes with each part is the text that applies:
- Open source (Apache-2.0): the Claude Code hook, the VS Code extension, the protocol specification and the shared core library. You may use, modify and redistribute them under the Apache License 2.0; see the
LICENSEfile of each package. These terms do not restrict that licence, and nothing in them stops you from offering your own services built on those parts. - Source-available (Functional Source License, FSL-1.1-Apache-2.0): the coordination server, including the local server of the Community edition. You may read it, run it and self-host it for your own team and any other purpose that is not a competing use. You may not offer it, or a substantially similar product, to others as a competing hosted service. Each release becomes available under Apache-2.0 two years after it is published. The server is not open source in the sense of the Open Source Definition. See the
LICENSEfile of the server package. - Commercial terms: the hosted Lanes service and the closed paid features, when launched, are provided under these terms and the plan description, not under an open-source licence.
- Name and logo: "Lanes" and the logo are protected, and the licences above do not grant any right to use them. A trademark policy will say what you may do.
Beta software is provided under the same split.
3. Beta
Features offered during the private beta are provided to gather feedback. They may change or end, may contain errors, and may be free of charge until we announce pricing.
4. Your responsibilities
- You are responsible for your repositories, your agents' actions, and your credentials, including the team token.
- Lanes coordinates edits; it does not review them. Review agent-written code as you would any other code.
- Do not use the Service unlawfully, to attack or overload systems, or to attempt to access other teams' data.
- Make sure you have the right to use the AI coding tools you connect, and follow their providers' terms.
5. Your code and data
You keep all rights in your code and content. Lanes does not receive your source code or prompts. We process the limited metadata described in the privacy policy only to provide the Service.
6. Fees (paid plans)
Paid plans, once available, are billed per user in advance, monthly or annually, in US dollars, excluding applicable taxes. You can cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period.
7. Availability and support
We aim for a reliable Service but do not guarantee uninterrupted operation. Lanes is designed to fail open: if it cannot coordinate, your agents' edits still go ahead, which means two agents could then edit the same file. Enterprise customers may have a separate service-level agreement.
8. Intellectual property
We and our licensors own the Service, the Lanes name and logo. Feedback you give us may be used by us without obligation to you.
9. Warranty disclaimer
To the extent the law allows, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Nothing here limits rights you have by law that cannot be excluded.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, or lost data or code, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the fees you paid in the 12 months before the claim (or EUR 100 if you paid nothing). Nothing limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for intent, gross negligence, death or personal injury.
11. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or end access if you breach these terms or to protect the Service, giving notice where practical. Sections that by nature should survive termination do so.
12. Changes
We may update these terms. For material changes we will give reasonable notice, for example by email or in release notes. Continued use after the change means you accept it.
13. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Italy. The courts of Italy have jurisdiction, without affecting mandatory consumer rights to sue in your country of residence. EU consumers may also use the online dispute resolution platform of the European Commission.
